KINDERGARTEN: The students will run, skip, hop, grapevine, shuffle, stretch, bend, twist, kick, throw.
FIRST GRADE: The students will run, skip, hop, grapevine, shuffle, stretch, bend, twist, kick, throw. Students will follow verbal commands from the teacher (e.g., Go left, go right. etc.).
SECOND GRADE: The students will run, skip, alternating hops, grapevine, shuffle, stretch, bend, twist, kick, throw. Students will follow game rules and cooperate with others.
19B. Analyze various movement concepts and applications.
19.B.1 Understand spatial awareness and relationships to objects and people.
KINDERGARTEN: The students will demonstrate awareness of space, levels, and direction in relationship to people and objects. Students will develop skills using body parts other than hands.
FIRST GRADE: Students will demonstrate awareness of space, force, and levels. Students will develop skills using body parts other than the hands (e.g., dribbling skills used in soccer and other games).
SECOND GRADE: Students will demonstrate awareness of space, force, levels, and time. Students will develop skills using body parts other than hands (e.g., Dribbling and passing skills used in soccer, bumping in beach volleyball).ow the continent and

19.C.1 Demonstrate safe movement in physical activities.
KINDERGARTEN: The students will demonstrate and understand the need for safety during application and participation. Students will demonstrate personal safety (e.g. recognizing personal space, forming lines).
FIRST GRADE: The students will demonstrate and explain the need for safety during application and participation. Students will demonstrate proper use of equipment (e.g., not throwing a ball at someone who is not watching). Students will demonstrate personal safety (e.g. Recognizing personal space, forming lines, forming squads, watching for others in activities).
SECOND GRADE: The students will demonstrate and explain the need for safety during application and participation. Students will demonstrate proper use of equipment (e.g., not throwing a ball at someone who is not watching, or kicking a volleyball). Students will demonstrate personal safety as well as safety of others around them (e.g. Recognizing personal space, forming lines, forming squads and spreading themselves out from others during activities).
20. Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of
physical fitness based upon continual self-assessment
20A. Know and apply the principles and components of health-related fitness.
20.A.1a Identify characteristics of health-related fitness (e.g., flexibility, muscular strength).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will demonstrate cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength/endurance, and flexibility in daily activities that are age-appropriate (e.g., running without stopping for five minutes, completing five push-ups without stopping).
FIRST GRADE: The students will demonstrate and define cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength/endurance, and flexibility in daily activities that are age appropriate (e.g. running without stopping for seven minutes, completing ten push-ups without stopping).
SECOND GRADE: The students will demonstrate and define cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength/endurance, and flexibility in daily activities that are age appropriate (e.g. running without stopping for nine minutes, completing twelve push-ups without stopping.
20.A.1b Engage in sustained physical activity that causes increased heart rate, muscle strength and range of movement.
KINDERGARTEN: The students will participate in activities with continuous movement (e.g. Pac man, Freeze tag, Battleships). Students will have one-two fitness days per week that promote flexibility, muscle strength and endurance.
FIRST GRADE: The students will participate in activities with and get introduced to sports with continuous movements (e.g. Soccer, Pillow hockey, Sponge polo). Students will have one-two fitness days per week that promote flexibility, muscle strength and endurance.
SECOND GRADE: The students will participate in activities and also play sports with continuous movements (e.g. soccer pillow hockey, sponge polo, basketball and speedball. Students will also have one-two fitness days per week that promote flexibility, muscle strength and endurance.
20B. Assess individual fitness levels.
20.B.1 Describe immediate effects of physical activity on the body (e.g., faster heartbeat, increased pulse rate, increased breathing rate).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will locate two spots to check heart rate. Students will be able to understand why exercising increases their heart rate. Students will check their heart rate before they start an activity and after the activity. The students will compare and contrast the speed of their hearts.
FIRST GRADE: The students will locate two spots to check heart rate. Students will be able to understand why exercising increases their heart rate. Students will also explain why they have increased breathing during exercise. Students will also have the use of heart rate monitors to show them that when they increase their intensity level, they increase their heart rate. Students will check their heart rates before and after activities (e.g. Running a half mile, playing tag).
SECOND GRADE: The students will locate three spots to check heart rate. Students will be able to understand why exercising increases their heart rate. Students will also compare two activities (e.g. running a half mile, walking a half mile), and how the different intensity levels causes heart rate to increase or decrease. Students will use a heart rate monitor during activities.
20C. Set goals based on fitness data and develop, implement and monitor an individual fitness improvement plan.
20.C.1 Identify a realistic health-related goal.
KINDERGARTEN: The students will choose one health related goal to make themselves a healthier person (e.g. to play outside and not watch television, when they go home).
FIRST GRADE: The students will choose two health related goals to make themselves a healthier person (e.g. to stop eating candy at lunch every day, and to play outside instead of watching television when they go home).
SECOND GRADE: The students will choose two health related goals to make themselves a healthier person, and start keeping a journal for progress of their goals. Journals will be collected once a week for evaluation.
21. Develop team-building skills by working with
others through physical activity
21A. Demonstrate individual responsibility during group physical activities.
21.A.1a Follow directions and class procedures while participating in physical activities.
KINDERGARTEN: Students will follow class rules and get along with others.
FIRST GRADE: Student will follow class rules and get along with others. Students will understand that there are consequences for unacceptable behavior.
SECOND GRADE: Students will follow class rules and get along with others. Students will understand that there are consequences for unacceptable behavior. Each time a student does not follow directions, they will get a time out.
21.A.1b Use identified procedures and safe practices with little or no reinforcement during group physical activities.
KINDERGARTEN: The students will work independently for short periods of time.
FIRST GRADE: The students will work in stations and small groups for short periods of time.
SECOND GRADE: The students will work in stations, small groups, and small teams for longer periods of time (e.g. 10 minutes).

KINDERGARTEN: The students will work on tasks during warm-ups, activities and drills, (e.g. throwing a ball at target to earn points).

FIRST GRADE: The students will identify sharing and will be able to take turns. Students will also demonstrate the willingness to accept others in their groups.
SECOND GRADE: The students will identify sharing and will be able to take turns. Students will also demonstrate the willingness to accept others in their groups. Students will also demonstrate different rule in each group (e.g. captains, squad leaders).
22. Understand principles of health promotion and the
prevention and treatment of illness and injury
22A. Explain the basic principles of health promotion, illness prevention and safety.

KINDERGARTEN: The students will explain what happens when they bleed, sneeze, and vomit. Students will learn not to touch any body fluid and get adult help when they or someone else are not feeling well.

22.A.1b Identify methods of health promotion and illness prevention (e.g., obtaining immunizations, hand washing, brushing and flossing teeth, eating practices, sleep, cleanliness).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will describe and demonstrate good habits, which promote cleanliness and improve appearance. Students will also distinguish between illness and health.
FIRST GRADE: The students will describe the role of cleanliness in preventing illness. Students will also explain ways to achieve good health (e.g. hand washing, good personal hygiene, care of teeth).
SECOND GRADE: The students will identify causes of illness, including environment and lifestyle. Students will describe the ways germs and diseases are spread. Students will also learn how to prevent germs and disease from spreading.
22.A.1c Identify dangerous situations and safety methods to reduce risks (e.g., traffic, improper use of medicine and poisons, strangers).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will name fire/safety rules (e.g., 911, dangers of playing with matches, stop, drop, and roll, and exit routes). Students will identify dangerous situations, which could cause injury (e.g., traffic, being lost, walking alone without an adult, strangers). Students will identify different types of child abuse (e.g. neglect).
FIRST GRADE: The students will describe unsafe situations in the home, including fire hazards, firearms, syringes, and sharp objects. Students will recite name, address, and phone number in a simulated emergency. Students will identify the different types of child abuse (e.g., neglect) and ways to obtain help.
SECOND GRADE: The students will identify how health and household products can be used and abused. Students will explain what to do in emergencies. Students will identify different types of child abuse (e.g. neglect) and ways to obtain help.
22B. Describe and explain the factors that influence health among individuals, groups and communities.
22.B.1 Encourage and support others in making positive health choices (e.g., eating practices, cleanliness, safety practices).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will recognize healthful foods from different cultures and other nations. Students will develop an awareness that eating a balanced diet is essential to good health. Students will recognize individuals with special needs (e.g., psychosocial, physical, mental, emotional).
FIRST GRADE: The students will demonstrate ways of reaching out to others for assistance. Students will list nutritional foods that help build and sustain the body.
SECOND GRADE: The students will create the safest route to school, and share with others (e.g., draw a map). Students will select healthy foods from each food group.
22C. Explain how the environment can affect health.
22.C.1 Identify sources and causes of environmental health risks (e.g., air, soil, sun, water, noise, food, chemicals).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will identify sources of and causes of health risks at home (e.g., medicines, smoking, chemicals, dust). Students will identify sources of and causes of health risks at school (e.g., wet floors, dust, playground accidents). Students will identify sources of and causes of health risks outside (air, soil, sun, water, noise).
FIRST GRADE: The students will name ways to promote a healthful environment
SECOND GRADE: The students will identify environmental pollutants that may cause illness.

23A. Describe and explain the structure and functions of the human body systems and how they interrelate.
23.A.1 Identify basic parts of body systems and their functions (e.g., heart, lungs, eyes).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will identify the basic body parts and use the five senses to discriminate objects in the environment.
FIRST GRADE: The students will describe the function and location of the organs (e.g., heart, brain, lungs, stomach).
SECOND GRADE: The students will be able to describe the function and location of the major organs and how they relate to each other (e.g., heart, brain, lungs, stomach).
23B. Explain the effects of health-related actions on the body systems.
23.B.1 Identify healthy actions that influence the functions of the body (e.g., cleanliness, proper diet, exercise).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will demonstrate good health habits (e.g., personal hygiene, adequate rest, exercise, leisure time).
FIRST GRADE: The students will describe good health habits (e.g., drink adequate amounts of water, proper diet, relaxation). Students will explain the positive effects of exercise. (e.g. cardiovascular and respiratory).
SECOND GRADE: The students will explain the benefits of proper eating habits. Students will identify health problems related to the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other controlled substances. Students will describe what are the effects of regular exercise on the body systems (e.g., cardiovascular and respiratory).
23C. Describe factors that affect growth and development.
23.C.1 Identify individual differences in growth and development among people.
KINDERGARTEN: The students will recognize physical differences among classmates. Students will explain how bodies grow and change over time.
FIRST GRADE: The students will identify major factors that affect physical growth (e.g., good, exercise, heredity, and environment).
SECOND GRADE: The students will describe the physical changes experienced in each stage of the life cycle.
24. Promote and enhance health and well-being
through the use of effective communication and decision-making skills
24A. Demonstrate procedures for communicating in positive ways, resolving differences and preventing conflict.
24.A.1a Differentiate between positive and negative behaviors (e.g., waiting your turn vs. pushing in line, honesty vs. lying).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will describe ways to show respect and consideration for others. Students will also define and discuss ideas about liking self and others. Students will define violence.
FIRST GRADE: The students will discuss ways to promote relationships (e.g. active listening, taking turns, rules, sharing). Students will explore ways to cope with stressful situations.
SECOND GRADE The students will demonstrate cooperation with others when participating in activities. Students will discuss issues involved with gender bias. Students will explore ways to cope with stressful situations. Students will define factors in society that promote violence.

FIRST GRADE: The students will walk in quietly when entering the gym. Students will sit in their assigned squads with their legs crossed and bottoms on the ground facing forward.
SECOND GRADE: The students will walk in quietly when entering the gym. Students will also sit in their assigned squads with their legs crossed and bottoms on the ground facing forward. Students will also listen to the teacher as well as raise their hands when wanting to communicate to others around them.

24.B.1 Recognize how choices can affect health (e.g., not brushing/tooth decay, smoking/risk of cancer and heart disease).
KINDERGARTEN: The students will discuss choices of the use of time not spent being active.
FIRST GRADE: The students will relate everyday health practices to prevention of disease (e.g. explain how to achieve good dental health).
SECOND GRADE: The students will recognize how choices can affect health (e.g., food, personal hygiene).

KINDERGARTEN: The students will explain the dangers of accepting gifts and rides from strangers. Students will discuss behaviors that constitute child abuse and recognize when to seek help.
FIRST GRADE: The students will give appropriate responses when approached by a stranger.
