Dear District 104 Parents, Students and Community-
It is with a great sadness that we write to you regarding the recent events ignited by the death of Mr. George Floyd that has led to a tremendous amount of pain and suffering in our community and across the nation. While it is impossible to fully realize what each of you have experienced during this tragic time, we would be careless to ignore this opportunity to recognize and acknowledge what is happening in our world and across our communities.
As school administrators, it is critical to respond to bias and racist behavior in the hopes of promoting much needed cultural change. District 104 believes in, and promotes, a culture that is accepting of all, regardless one’s gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or ability. We reject hatred and injustice; and we strive for equality in our policies, practices, and service to our school community. We wish to stand united with you to learn and grow to be part of the greater solution.
While our 2019-2020 school year has come to an end, we continue to be focused on the work that supports our school community, especially our students, families, and staff that may experience the violence of racism. To this end, we will continue the work that we started with Dr. Anthony Muhammed, to build a culturally responsive learning environment to better meet the needs of our diverse student population.
We feel blessed to serve a school community whose primary objective is to create a safe and positive learning environment for all District 104 students that is equitable and inclusive. We all strive to fulfill our district mission to promote and instill the love of learning.

Estimadas familias del Distrito 104 de Summit
Es con gran pesar que le escribimos sobre los recientes acontecimientos provocados por la muerte de George Floyd y el dolor y sufrimiento que ha generado. Aunque no es posible comprender completamente lo que cada uno de ustedes ha experimentado durante este tiempo trágico, sería negligente ignorar esta oportunidad de reconocer lo que está sucediendo en nuestro mundo.
Como administradores escolares, es crítico responder al perjuicio y el comportamiento racista con la esperanza de promover un cambio necesario en nuestra cultura y sociedad. El distrito escolar 104 cree en y promueve una cultura que acepta a todos independiente del sexo, raza, religión, orientación sexual o capacidad. Rechazamos el odio y la injusticia; y luchamos por la equidad en nuestras pólizas, prácticas y dentro de nuestro servicio a nuestra comunidad escolar. Queremos estar con ustedes unidos para aprender y crecer y formarnos como parte de una solución más grande.
Aunque el año escolar 2019-2020 se ha terminado, seguimos enfocados en el trabajo que apoya a nuestra comunidad escolar, específicamente nuestros estudiantes, familias y personal que han sido víctimas de la violencia del racismo. Con este fin en mente, continuaremos trabajando con el Dr. Anthony Muhammed para construir un ambiente culturalmente responsivo para mejor servir a nuestros estudiantes diversos.
Somos bendecidos que podemos servir a una comunidad escolar cuyo objetivo principal es crear un ambiente seguro y positivo para todos los estudiantes que es también equitativo e inclusivo. Todos nosotros luchamos para cumplir con nuestra misión que es promover e inculcar el amor de aprender.
